Holly Hunter, an American actress and film producer is renowned for her performances in movies like Broadcast News The Firm The Piano The Incredibles. Her work has been recognized with numerous awards, like an Oscar for the film Piano. Her career began acting as an actress both on Broadway as well as Off Broadway. Enthusiastic about acting from the time she was in school, she portrayed Helen Keller in a play in fifth grade. When she was in the fifth grade after having mumps she lost hearing in the left ear. However, she did not allow that to stop her. In college she studied theatre as well as later moving from Pittsburgh and Pennsylvania, to New York City in pursuit of her goal. In a chance encounter she got trapped in an elevator along with playwright Beth Henley and the two worked together on the Broadway Crimes of the Heart that was Hunter's first performance. As she relocated from New York to Los Angeles, Hunter tried to land film roles. An supporting role was found in Swing Shift. Since then, she has appeared in numerous movies, television shows and films over the course of a 30-year career. Holly Hunter won a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, as well as her Women in Film Lucy Award.
